About The Event

In cooperation with Tangente Jazz+

Random/Control was David Helbock's most significant project for many years. The three musicians from Vorarlberg celebrated their 15th anniversary last year and have performed hundreds of concerts worldwide. After releasing three albums - "Random/Control" (Traumton 2010), "Think of Two" (Traumton 2014), and "Tour d'Horizon" (ACT 2018) - the band is ready for a new program and new adventures.

The album "Think of Two," dedicated to the musical legends Thelonious Monk and Hermeto Pascoal, impressed Hermeto so much that he contributed to it and recorded a piece in Brazil specifically for Random/Control.

The trio's trademark remains the many instruments they use - just three musicians, but more than 20 instruments. Andreas Broger plays clarinet, bass clarinet, various saxophones, flutes, and occasionally sings. Johannes Bär masters nearly all brass instruments - sousaphone, tuba, trombone, trumpet, alphorn, as well as didgeridoo, beatbox, and drums - sometimes playing them simultaneously.

Inspired by this variety of sound possibilities, David Helbock, who focuses on piano and some percussion, has composed many new pieces and set poems by William Blake, Emily Dickinson, and others to music.

The trio has now invited Fola Dada to sing these poems.

Fola Dada is an extremely versatile artist and can be considered a pioneer in combining various genres in singing. The trained jazz singer started with tap dancing in the style of Fred Astaire and continued even while vocal coaching DSDS (Germany's Idol) candidates for Dieter Bohlen. She is a mainstay in the German jazz and soul scene and was awarded the German Jazz Prize for vocals in 2022. Helbock's passionate, wild trio meets one of Germany's most exciting singers!
